Crude Leak Shuts Enbridge's Line 6A in Romeoville, Ill.
OAKHURST, N.J. (DTN) --- Enbridge Energy Partners, L.P. shut Line 6A of the
Lakehead System in Romeoville, Illinois, on Thursday due to a crude oil leak,
according to a news release. The cause of the release has not been determined.
Enbridge said oil was released onto a roadway and then into a retention
pond. There is no current estimate on the size of the crude oil leak. No
injuries were reported.
Part of the Lakehead System, line 6A is a 34-inch, 670,000 bpd line
transporting light synthetics, heavy and medium crude oil from Superior,
Wisconsin, to Griffith, Indiana.
Enbridge personnel are on site and booms have been deployed as a
precautionary measure. The product is being vacuumed by vacuum trucks.
The company has notified and is working with the appropriate regulators and
emergency officials.
